POST PRODUCTION: Sound and Scenes

This week, we decided on scene for our film, and began to write and edit our script as a team, using a google word document.
Our scenes will include:
- A Kitchen
As our protagonist will begin this scene elated, we want the kitchen to be saturated in color, with beams of light, happy music playing on a radio for our protagonist to dance to.
We plan to use one of kitchens in the halls behind Keynes on campus, because the kitchen to newly fitted, the white walls and cupboards will be bright and hopefully reflect natural light nicely as it has floor to ceiling windows, which will be kept out of shot.
Crazy Mum Dancing in the Kitchen

We plan to bring props that will personalize the kitchen to match our characters personalities and make the kitchen seem more like a home than a shared room in halls. We'll be examining which props to bring once our script is written.

This scene from The Big Bang Theory, also shows a scene being set by a character chancing in a kitchen, to be interrupted by a character who contrasts the happy mood. We want our scene to have more bright natural light than this set- but the mood of Penny in this clip is presented almost entirely by her dancing rather than by her speech and this is something we are aiming to use ourselves.

The Street
We plan to have our protagonist walk down a street whilst on the phone to his Mother. We want a decent amount of background space, so that we can change focus to people in the background that our protagonist will believe is talking about him. For this we will need our camera to move as our protagonist walks. We will experiment with what type of movement is available to us, hopefully we will use some kind of trolly. We want plenty of daylight for this scene so we will have to be careful to shoot this scene with enough time.
In this scene we will want our protagonist to be talking on the phone. We plan to have the audience hear what Jack is saying, but not necessarily hear what his Mum is saying through the phone. We will experiment with muffled speech sounds, but we don't want this scene to appear comical.

The Bedroom
In this scene we plan to hide clues about our protagonists mental health, such as NHS headed letters and pill packaging. Other than that we want this scene to depict a normal young man's bedroom. This scene includes an auditory hallucination in the form of a sound-scape that will build to a climax. We are considering sinister lighting that we can use to build tension in the scene, and denote the characters fear. We want the room to appear cramped, so a smaller room is ideal. We also want the walls to be covered with posters and other ephemera that begin to explain our character.
