POST PRODUCTION: Location Recce

This week a lot of our time was spent ensuring that we were ready to film as efficiently and effectively as possible. We organised a group spreadsheet to monitor when everyone, including our actors, we free and booked are equipment ahead of time to make sure that we wouldn't be stuck without anything we needed.

This week we also went out to one of our locations, it is our only location outside so we knew that it would be best practice to go ahead of time and check to see if we would have any issues. We brought our equipment and headed to the underpass in which we were to film scene 2. We quickly found once we had set up that sound was impossible to capture without the loud static caused by wind, regardless of asking our actor to stand at a number of different angles.

We moved along the underpass to a more sheltered area, whilst the sound somewhat improved, the tunnel we were sheltering under created a difficult kind of light as the sun started to fall, making it difficult to achieve a workable white balance.

Had we not given ourselves time to test out our initial locations, we may have been caught out without enough time to find a new location.

We also found that in the second location we found it difficult to avoid having Kent University branding in shot, either through reflective windows or permanent signage, which would shatter the illusion of our setting.

From this test we knew that we needed to;
-Move this scene to a more sheltered location
-Check the weather forecast before heading out.
-Arrive in plenty of time to take advantage of reasonably consistent daylight.

The second location we tested.
